An Israeli and Palestinian musical collaboration containing Hebrew and Arabic lyrics played simultaneously Sunday on Israeli and Palestinian radio stations.

The Palestinian Broadcasting Authority agreed to broadcast the song and cooperated with Israel's Army Radio to broadcast it at the same time.

Israeli pop star David Broza and Palestinian music producer Said Murad together wrote and composed the song "B'libi" ("In my heart"), which recognizes both people's claim to the land.

According to the agreement, two stations matched their broadcasts for four and a half minutes Sunday morning to air the song.

Broza sang the song in Hebrew and in Arabic with the help of Murad's younger brother, Wisam. A choir of Palestinian and Israeli children also appear on the recording.

On Army Radio, the record was played during the program "What's the rush?" hosted by Razi Barka'i.

"I believe that through music we can close the gap between the two peoples and create an atmosphere for politicians on both sides to do what should be done," said Barka'i, who was the first Israeli to be interviewed on the Voice of Palestine since violence erupted more than four years ago.

The Voice of Palestine's director, Bassem Abu Sumaya, said the joint singing event marks the beginning of a new era.

"During the uprising, no one would have thought of this because we lived in devastation," Abu Sumaya said.

David Broza has been identified with Israel's political left throughout his career. His 1978 rendition of "Y'heyeh tov" ("It'll be okay") ― a gentle folk song which tells of Israeli war casualties and anxieties, as well as late Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat's visit to Jerusalem ― is a favorite at peace rallies.
